TSE Master of Science M1 year

  • Language of instruction English

  • Duration 1 year

  • ECTS 60

  • Program type Full-time education, Work-Study

Start of term: September 2027

During the M1 year of the TSE Master of Science, students tailor their course programme based on their prerequisites and their plans for specialisation in the M2 year.

Students undertake interdisciplinary courses as well as modules in programming and professional development. They select courses offered within subjects covering economics, econometrics, statistics, mathematics, finance and law. The combinations of courses chosen enable them to acquire the prerequisites for the various specialisation pathways offered in the M2 year. From April onwards, students undertake a work placement or a preparatory programme for doctoral studies (advanced courses, research placement with the production of a dissertation).

The M1 year may be completed as part of a degree-leading exchange programme at one of the school’s partner universities.

A two-year work-study programme is offered in the M1 and M2 years across two possible specialisations, each leading to a Master’s degree: Applied Economics (AE) and Econometrics and Statistics (ES).

The year is divided into terms according to the following indicative timetable:

Refresher course Mid August - End of August 2 weeks: for students recruited from outside TSE
Induction End of August - Mid September 2 weeks: cross-curricular activities and completion of the refresher course
Term 1 Mid September - Mid November 8 weeks of lessons + 1 week’s holiday
Term 2 Mid November - End of January 8 weeks of lessons + 2 weeks’ holiday
Special activities Last week of January Career development, data challenge, etc.
Term 3 Early February - Early April 8 weeks of lectures + 1 week’s winter holidays
Term 4 Early April - End of the academic year Work placement or preparation for the PhD programme (lectures + dissertation)

Refresher courses

Students joining the TSE Master of Science programme in the M1 year or those wishing to refresh their knowledge may take refresher courses in the following subjects:

  • Algebra
  • Probability
  • Static Optimisation
  • Econometrics and Statistics
  • Economics

Induction

Students benefit from a two-week induction period combining cross-disciplinary activities and a refresher course for those who need it. This period, which takes place before the start of the course, gives students the opportunity to get to know one another better – particularly through social events – and to prepare for the rest of the programme.

Courses available throughout the year

Two options:

  • Work placement (at least 8 weeks)
  • Preparation for the PhD programme in economics or applied mathematics: advanced courses and a dissertation

Admission is based on academic excellence. The programme is aimed at students with a perfect command of English.

Required profile

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Applied Mathematics or an equivalent qualification recognised by the selection committee (3 to 4 years of higher education);
  • Have a solid background in quantitative methods;
  • Demonstrate a C1 level of English.

Calendar

  • Autumn: 22 October to 11 November 2026
