Informing and shaping the future
As we face increasingly global and interconnected economic, social, technological, and environmental challenges, preserving our ability to understand the world in all its complexity has never been more essential.
TSE is an internationally recognized institution for research and education, where economics continuously engages with mathematics, statistics, and the quantitative social sciences. This disciplinary approach is one of our greatest strengths. It enables us to examine contemporary issues from multiple perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of the complex interactions that shape our societies.

Since the begining, we have developed internationally oriented academic programmes and research initiatives in close collaboration with businesses, public institutions, and other organizations. We are driven by a fundamental belief: knowledge creates value only when it helps us better understand the world and informs decisions that contribute to the common good.
At Toulouse School of Economics, we see economics as a driving force for the common good. We believe in building bridges and nurturing collective thinking.

A Distinctive Approach to Excellence
The TSE story began in the early 1980s, driven by the vision of Jean‑Jacques Laffont and a group of pioneering economists. Their ambition was bold: to establish in Toulouse a centre of excellence in economics capable of competing with the world’s leading institutions.
Guided by its founding figures, this human and intellectual adventure transformed a pioneering research laboratory into a world-class school and research institution, culminating in Jean Tirole’s Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2014.
A Vibrant Place to Live and Study in the Heart of Toulouse
Studying at TSE means choosing a city that is consistently ranked among the best student destinations in France. Courses are taught on the historic campuses of the University of Toulouse Capitole — the Manufacture des Tabacs and Arsenal campuses. In 2019, TSE further strengthened its presence with the opening of a new building dedicated to research, also located in the heart of Toulouse. Together, these facilities provide a stimulating academic environment and a vibrant campus experience.
Student associations, personalized support services, scholarships, housing assistance, and a wide range of student resources are all designed to help you thrive both academically and personally. With its sunny terraces, rich cultural life, and dynamic student community, Toulouse offers the ideal setting to succeed in your studies while enjoying an enriching and unforgettable experience.
