Disabilities

Throughout your studies, the Université Toulouse Capitole and TSE will support you so that you can study, get around, and fully participate in campus life under the best possible conditions.

Through its Disability Master Plan, Toulouse Capitole University is committed to providing appropriate support and assistance to students with disabilities. Whether permanent or temporary, each disability is addressed with personalized measures to help you succeed in your academic endeavors. The UT Disability Department, the university’s various departments, and the Student Health Service (SSE) work together to advise and support you.

To help you succeed in your academic journey, the UT Disability Department is here to welcome you, offer advice, and support you through the process. If you have a permanent or temporary disability, a health issue, are pregnant, or are providing care for someone else—any of which prevents you from attending classes or taking exams under appropriate conditions—you may be eligible for specific accommodations to help ensure your studies proceed smoothly.

Procedure

The accommodations and support offered can take various forms, tailored to the recommendations of the SSE, depending on the capacities of the Disability Department.

  • Special exam accommodations: extended exam time, exams in a designated room, use of a computer, assistance from a note-taker, adaptation of exam questions (Braille, large print, etc.), and case-by-case adjustments to oral exams for students with hearing impairments.
  • Human support: note-taking for lectures and/or tutorials, special study arrangements (exemption from attendance requirements, etc.), enhanced tutoring (University Library).
  • Technical aids: photocopies of course materials, a priority access card for the university dining hall, DYS keyboards, permission to use a voice recorder, access to the Arsenal parking lot, and access to the video magnifier at the Manufacture des Tabacs library.

The facilities on the Toulouse Capitole University campus feature numerous amenities and access points adapted for people with disabilities. To best plan their trips and locate available access points, students with disabilities are encouraged to consult the detailed maps of each site:

To reach these locations, Toulouse’s public transit network, Tisseo, offers a range of solutions to facilitate travel for people with disabilities. Subways, trams, and buses are equipped with dedicated features, including audio and visual announcements, access ramps, lowered stop buttons and fare validators, and more. Find all the information and their accessibility guide on their dedicated page.

The Department of Physical and Sports Activities (DAPS) at the University of Toulouse Capitole enables students with disabilities to participate in sports activities tailored to their needs. They can join classes open to all students or take part in activities specifically adapted for them. Individualized support is also provided to encourage their participation and ensure they can engage in these activities under the best possible conditions.

A “Sport Handicap” class is offered for students with disabilities, led by an instructor trained in adaptive sports.

Since space is limited, please contact the UT Disability Department directly for more information.

The Student Health Service

The Student Health Service (SSE) supports students throughout their academic journey by providing them with free, confidential, and no-upfront-cost access to various healthcare professionals.

As the primary point of contact for students with disabilities, the SSE assesses their specific needs and, when appropriate, makes recommendations for academic accommodations. To ensure the necessary measures are in place for your academic success, we recommend scheduling an appointment with an SSE physician at the start of the academic year and then contacting the UT Disability Department.
