Research initiative on joint "diagnostic and therapeutic" model to fight against antimicrobial resistance
Partner since 2020
Since 2020, bioMérieux has supported fundamental and applied research in health economics at TSE, focusing on the challenges of antibiotic resistance and the economics of diagnostics. The company was thus one of the first partners of the TSE Health Center.
In 2024, bioMérieux renewed its commitment to further develop economic research focused on a combined “diagnostic and therapeutic” model. This approach is based on a dual perspective, covering both primary care and hospital-based medicine.
Activities
The research initiative, combines several types of activities:
- Conducting research on identified issues,
- Presenting the research at scientific conferences or events for policymakers,
- Producing materials that explain academic research in layman’s terms for policymakers.
The initiative draws in particular on the TSE Health Center’s events and outreach activities and benefits from enhanced visibility through the Center’s various communication channels.
Based in a long-term vision, the research projects conducted rely on regular interactions between TSE researchers and bioMérieux teams. This collaboration fosters the exchange of expertise and helps advance research on antibiotic resistance. Academics involved in the initiative also engage with the Antimicrobial Resistance Working Group of the Health Sector Strategic Committee (CSF) of the National Industry Committee (CNI), thereby strengthening the links between research, industry, and public health issues.
Priority research areas
- Optimal innovation and regulatory policy to address antibiotic resistance using diagnostic tests and antibiotic treatments
- An empirical method for assessing the value of diagnostic tests in the field of antimicrobial resistance

bioMérieux and the CSF Antibiorésistance welcome the partnership established several years ago with TSE, which, through its research, proposes and shares new and innovative business models that are essential to addressing this market failure.

Research Journals
As part of the research initiative supported by bioMérieux and the ARPEGE project, researchers at TSE are conducting research on new economic models associated with therapeutic innovations and on the role of diagnostics in the fight against antibimcrobial resistance.
The “Economics of Antibiotics & Antibiotic Resistance” research journals make the key findings from this academic work accessible to the wider public.
About bioMérieux
