Pensions: what about health inequalities?

Raising the legal retirement age could quickly become politically untenable if we fail to take health inequalities into account more effectively, according to Frédéric Cherbonnier.

The pension reform is based on flawed reasoning, but it seeks to address a real problem. Our pension system is not in crisis; previous reforms have largely brought it back into balance, primarily through a gradual decline in retirees' relative standard of living.

But public debt has reached unprecedented levels, and the public deficit exceeds 5% of GDP, at a time when it is becoming crucial to allocate more resources to areas where France spends less than many of its peers, notably education, research, and the justice system. Not to mention the challenges posed by the war in Ukraine, the ecological transition, and the state of our healthcare system.
