About the Institution

Joining TSE means becoming part of an institution of excellence recognized on the international stage. As a leading research and education center in economics, mathematics, and quantitative social sciences, TSE ranks among the world’s top institutions and holds 15th place in the Shanghai Ranking for economics research.

Since 2023, the Toulouse School of Economics and Quantitative Social Sciences has held the status of “Grand Établissement,” reflecting an ambitious academic model and strengthening its international appeal. Supported by cutting-edge research, its academic programs—led by internationally renowned faculty and researchers—provide students with a rigorous and innovative education that addresses major contemporary challenges.

Located in the heart of Toulouse, TSE brings together 2,000 students, 170 faculty members and researchers, and approximately 100 administrative and technical staff. For more than twenty years, the School has been working alongside public and private sector partners to analyze and tackle major economic and societal challenges.

As an integral part of the Université Toulouse Capitole campus, TSE offers a dynamic, internationally oriented work environment focused on academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact.

TSE’s Structure

TSE is organized around three distinct entities that operate under a common strategy and shared resources.

The School of Economics & Quantitative Social Sciences – TSE (public sector)

Manages undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, and co-manage research activities with the TSE-R Joint Research Unit (UMR TSE-R) and the Jean-Jacques Laffont Foundation.

The Jean-Jacques Laffont Foundation – TSE (private sector)

Is a scientific cooperation foundation created in 2007 following a government call for proposals. It includes two affiliated foundations: TSE-P, which supports TSE’s partnership-based research activities, and IAST, which promotes multidisciplinary research in the social sciences.

The Joint Research Unit (UMR) – TSE-R

Is a research laboratory that brings together the majority of TSE’s faculty members and researchers in economics and mathematics. It is jointly supervised by the school, the CNRS or INRAE.
