Catherine Molho recipient of an ANR research fund

June 30, 2025 Awards

Congratulations to Catherine Molho, assistant professor at Toulouse School of Economics, for receiving a Grant from the French National Research Agency. Catherine Molho obtained this 446 000 euros grant for her project: Regulating punishment to enforce cooperation: from individuals to institutions.

The main goal of the project ENFORCE is to improve our understanding of how punishment is regulated to promote its prosocial uses while restricting its destructive consequences. Three lines of research investigate how diverse human groups regulate punishment through reputational systems, norms, and institutional rules. The project uses a multi-method approach, combining cross-cultural surveys across small-scale and industrialized societies with novel experimental tasks to study the bottom-up emergence of punishment norms and institutions.
