Congratulations!
Mathias Reynaert received the European Award for Researchers in Environmental Economics under the age of Forty, from the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), on July 1st 2026.
This award was given jointly to Mathias Reynaert and Frikk Nesje, Associate professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Copenhagen. It is a recognition given every year to the environmental economist under the age of forty who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to environmental economic thought and knowledge. If there is a significant body of joint work, the prize may be awarded jointly to two recipients provided that both recipients are under the age of forty.
Mathias Reynaert is a Professor of Economics at TSE. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Leuven and the University of Antwerp in 2015, and joined TSE the same year. His research lies at the intersection of empirical industrial organiszation and environmental economics. He studies how firms, consumers, and markets respond to envionmental and climate policies, and to the transition to cleaner technologies. His work combines detailed data with economic models to quantify the real-world effects of public policies. Applications include automobile markets, energy and electricity markets, protected areas, and the design and incidence of corrective policies.
