Biography
Federico Nutarelli is Assistant Professor of Economics at IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca and Visiting Scholar at the Toulouse School of Economics (since September 2025). His research lies at the intersection of empirical industrial organization, health economics, and causal machine learning. He studies pricing, demand, and innovation in pharmaceutical markets—estimating own- and cross-price elasticities and evaluating differential (Ramsey-type) pricing and related policy questions. He also develops and applies causal ML methods to quantify heterogeneous effects of (health) economy-wide shocks on firms’ outcomes, with work forthcoming in the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics. Federico earned his PhD in Economics, Networks and Business Analytics from IMT (2022) and has held research positions at Bocconi and MIT Sloan where he was visiting. During his PhD he also briefly performed consultancy services for Roche Pharmaceutics.
