European Competition Policy Workshop: A Successful First Edition at TSE
May 2026 – Toulouse School of Economics
For the first time, Toulouse School of Economics brought together a wide range of European competition authorities for the TSE European Competition Policy Workshop, organized by Patrick Rey, Scientific Director of the TSE Competition Policy & Regulation Center, and Alexandre de Cornière, Director of the Center.
Over two days, economists from numerous national authorities (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden), as well as from the European Commission (DG Competition), engaged in discussions with TSE researchers. This inaugural event provided a unique platform for dialogue between academics and regulators, fully aligned with the mission of the TSE Competition Policy & Regulation Center.
In a collaborative and intellectually stimulating atmosphere, the workshop fostered in-depth discussions on key challenges in competition policy. Exchanges were enriched by contributions from TSE researchers Jean Tirole, Andrew Rhodes, and Mathias Reynaert, supporting high-level collective reflection.
Beyond the topics discussed, this first edition highlighted the importance of sustained interaction between economic research and regulatory practice. The quality of the exchanges and the engagement of participants reflected the Center’s core ambition: to bring together researchers and policymakers in order to inform competition policy through rigorous, evidence-based analysis.
The organizers warmly thank all participants for their contributions, as well as Ana Sofia Rodrigues (Member of the Board of the Portuguese Competition Authority) and Nuno Cunha Rodrigues (President of the Portuguese Competition Authority) for their key role in initiating this event.
Next Event: ACE Conference, November 2026
On November 12–13, 2026, Toulouse School of Economics will host a new edition of the annual conference of the Association for Competition Economics (ACE), having previously welcomed it in 2007.
Each year, this conference gathers competition economists from across Europe—including representatives from public authorities, academia, and the private sector—in a major European city. Over two days, the program combines plenary sessions, applied research presentations, and discussions on key developments in competition policy. It also highlights academic excellence through the recognition of outstanding research contributions.
Beyond its scientific program, the conference provides a valuable forum for exchanging ideas, confronting perspectives, and advancing discussions on current competition policy issues in Europe.
