New technologies have emerged through imitation rather than intellect

Jean François Bonnefon (Research Director at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and affiliated to the Toulouse School of Economics), Maxime Derex (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow, University of Exeter Cornwall Campus) and a team of American, British and French researchers have published an article "Causal understanding is not necessary for the improvement of culturally evolving technology" in Nature Human Behaviour showing that understanding is not necessary in order to improve a technology.
