Workshop on the Economics of Antibiotics

December 6, 2021

TSE

Room Auditorium A3

Thank you to all the speakers and participants for the fruitful exchanges during this one-day session.

This workshop on the economics of antibiotics brought together the few European economists working on the economics of antibiotic use and financing. Antibiotics are an important therapeutic tool that has enabled enormous progress in health care. However, antibiotic resistance is growing and increasingly threatening the healthcare system. This raises questions about the best use of antibiotics in our medical systems and also about the best ways to encourage innovation against antibiotic resistance. Economic incentives and the organization of health care are important to the efficiency and sustainability of the system. Recent economic research on these issues was presented at the workshop.
