Mortgage debt, equity extraction and consumer loans

Abstract

In this work in progress I explore the interaction between mortgage borrowing, equity extraction and repayment of consumer loans. At the time of home purchase, consumers supplement mortgage borrowing with consumer loans. Homeowners then repay more expensive consumer loans while extracting equity through cheaper mortgage borrowing.
