Biography

Stéphane Gregoir joined TSE in January 2016 as Dean and Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics. A graduate of Ecole Polytechnique (1986), ENSAE (National School for Statistics and Economic Administration) (1988), and University Paris Dauphine with a Masters (1989) and a PhD (2009) in Applied Mathematics, he started his career in 1988 at INSEE as a researcher in its research department. He spent the better part of his career to date within this institute. After holding a guest faculty position at University of San Diego in California for a year (1992-1993), he came back to INSEE where he successively worked as Head of the "quarterly national accounts" division (1993-1997), member of the investments committee (1996-1999), Director of the CREST macroeconomics laboratory (1997-2000), Associate Director of the Association for the development of research in economics and statistics (1999-2000), and Head of the "growth and macroeconomics policies" division (2000-2003). From 2003 to 2007, he was Director of CREST (Centre for Research in Economics and Statistics). In July 2007, he joined EDHEC where he held the position of Director of Research (2007-2014) and Dean of the Faculty (2011-2014). In July 2014, he went back to INSEE where he was appointed Director of methodology, international relations and coordination. From 1999 to 2009, he took on editorial responsibilities for the journals Annales d’Economie et de Statistique, Econometrics Journal and Economie et statistique. His research published in international journals mainly focusses on macroeconomics and econometrics (non-stationary time series). He also worked on a theoretical analysis of how expectations are formed and their consequences. In applied research, he developed methods for dating the economic cycle, and carried out macro-econometric studies of different policies and the real estate economy.
