Biography
Harstad is an applied theorist working on political economics and environmental economics. He has published research articles on international political economy, the political economy of regulation, emissions and technology investments as stochastic games, and on conservation and supply-side environmental policies. For some of this research, he has received an ERC Starting Grant, an ERC Consolidator Grant, and the biannual Kempe Award for the best European paper in the field of environmental and resource economics. Before he returned to the University of Oslo in his native Norway, Harstad was the Max McGraw Chair in Management & Environment at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
