Objectives:
TSE economists will present their most recent research on the economics of merger control. They will discuss what is known and not known about conglomerate mergers, the impact of mergers on innovation and the effects of mergers when the parties and their competitors can reposition their products post merger. Thereafter, we will have a roundtable discussion, where representatives of DG Competition and the competition authorities of Portugal and Spain will debate with academics and practitioners on recent developments and emerging trends in EU merger control. We expect a lively debate on how to deal with mergers in digital markets and the relationship between mergers and trade with special attention to acquisitions of strategic companies by foreign players.
Key benefits:
-
Improve your understanding of novel theories of harm.
-
Understand whether those theories of harm will make a difference in practice.
-
Discuss with leading academics, practitioners and enforcers about the likely evolution of merger control, especially in digital markets.
