James Venit, Partner at Skadden, will talk on "Law and Economics/Lawyers and Economists", on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 5 pm Room MBII, Manufacture des Tabacs.
Abstract:
Law and Economics intersect most frequently in the areas of antitrust and regulated industries such as telecoms and energy. In antitrust the most common issues are market definition, quantifying effects of horizontal mergers, theories of harm, and calculation of damages in cartel cases. While some law firms employ their own full-time economists most firms work with either individual outside economists or economic consultancies. The talk will focus on this interaction, the role of the lawyer and the economist and the various issues that arise in antitrust proceedings and litigation.
