DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Baldwin (Oxford University)\, “Implementing Walrasian
Equilibrium: the Language of Product-Mix Auctions”\, Economic Theory Semi
 nar\, Toulouse: TSE\, April 23\, 2024\, 11:00–12:30\, room Auditorium 3 -
JJ Laffont.\n\nProduct-mix auctions are sealed-bid mechanisms for trading
multiple units of multiple differentiated goods. They implement competitiv
e-equilibrium allocations based on the preferences that participants expre
ss in an easy-to-use-and-understand geometric language. All concave substi
tutes (respectively\, strong substitutes) preferences can be uniquely repr
esented\, and no other preferences can be represented\, by appropriate set
s of permitted bids in the corresponding version of this language. These l
anguages thus also provide new characterizations of ordinary substitutes\,
and of strong substitutes. We discuss implementation of the auctions\, an
d extensions and variants of the language\, e.g.\, allowing for budget con
straints. (with Paul Klemperer and Edwin Lock)
