  service agencies. Leveraging\nshort-term weather variation\, we find incr
 eases in maltreatment of young children during hot\nperiods. We rule out t
 hat our results are solely due to changes in reporting. Additional analysi
 s\nidentifies neglect as the temperature-sensitive maltreatment type\, and
  we do not find evidence\nthat adaptation via air conditioning mitigates t
 his relationship. Given that climate change will\nincrease exposure to ext
 reme temperatures\, our findings speak to additional costs of climate\ncha
 nge among the most vulnerable.
